How I Met My Husband

"So this is story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down, and I'd like to take a minute just sit right there.."

I'm not sure why the Fresh Prince theme song came to my mind as I started writing but it did, so I just went with it.

But seriously, I love our story. It's one that I can't wait to share with our kids when they can understand because it's complicated, it's triumphant and it's the perfect example of what not to do. haha.

So in 2009, I was in the process of leaving my college town and moving to a new area. Meanwhile I was working at Texas Land and Cattle as a waitress and one of my friends who worked there was from the town I was moving to. She knew I was looking for a roommate, so she posted to old reliable Facebook to help me out and see if she knew of anyone who would be looking for a roommate.

I did get a response from her post. It was not at all what I was expecting. My now husband messaged me via Facebook after seeing our friend's post about me on Facebook. He happened to be in Iraq and was going to be coming home at the same time I would be moving to the city, which was his home as well. At first I thought this was just some random guy, trying to be all Rico Suave without any real intentions. So my initial plan was to just blow him off. But then for some reason we started writing back and forth to each other.

So we wrote for a while and then he started using his phone calls to call me. And we talked for as long as he could until chow or whatever else he had to do. I think we ended up talking and writing for 3 months before we actually met. So our first date was also the first time meeting face to face. Which was scary, fun and so nerve wrecking at the same time. I was just hoping he wasn't some weirdo who was going to chop me in to tiny little pieces when I showed up for our first date. haha. But honestly after talking for so long, getting to know each other and being pretty good about reading people and reading my instincts I knew this would be ok.

We had a few ups and downs, but really since that first meeting we have been together ever since. And I am so grateful for him, because honestly, I had a lot of baggage and a lot of things I had not worked out on my own yet, that carried themselves into our relationship and kinda poured themselves out on him. So it was a lot. And then we had our first child together when I was 21 and he was 23. So we have GROWN so, so much.

So when people tell me they are online dating or being set up by a friend, I have no judgement whatsoever! I feel like love can be found and brought to life no matter how it comes. You just have to be open to receiving it and trust your gut.
