It's Not About What You Have..

It's about what you give

todays eden gifts

It's funny because as I write this I am thinking..."I won't have much to give if I don't get a nap because what I have is sleep deprivation." No really, when do kids get to the point that I have to wake them up before the day is half over, instead of them waking me before the sun is even up?

But back to the point. I have constantly battled with the idea that none of what I had was of any value. Or that in order to give anything of value, I needed to be the best at something. Recently this came to mind when I was asked to be a mentor at my church. It literally took me two seconds to respond with a "no way", answer. The enemy must have pounced at the opportunity and immediately my mind was filled with thoughts that I wasn't good enough to advise anyone, I couldn't quote enough scripture and I have a hard time not blurting out my own opinions. So obviously, I couldn't bring anything of value to anybody by mentoring them.

So often this is the lie we tell ourselves. That we need to have things. Either it be knowledge, money, skills, etc. to be able to have something to give. But hear me when I say this, your greatness is not in what you have but in what you give and in the way you give it. The best gift that you could ever give is your heart. And we all have one of those.

I may not have the time to sit and spend one on one time with each of my kids everyday, but I do have the ability to give them my all for 10 minutes. And in that 10 minutes I am going to give them my ears, my heart and my love. I'll give all that I have and they will know it, because they can feel it. Just as easily as I can give my time, my heart, my ears and my compassion to anyone I mentor. We were all given special gifts meant to spread light by us. Some of you are good at listening, hosting, giving, teaching, coaching and many more. But we are given these gifts to give them. To share them with others because that is how we impact and change the world. We don't transform lives one bmw at a time.

When you wake up and you feel like you have nothing to offer the world, that is the furthest thing from the truth. Acknowledge that self doubt is real. But the unrealistic expectations of ourselves have to stop. Don't compare yourself to Oprah, who is giving away free cars. We have our own gifts to give in the time and place we are in and she has hers.

You're enough. I feel like I need to repeat that, and for myself too.

YOU. ARE. ENOUGH.

So today or anyway when you feel like you don't have anything to give. Remember that you are enough.
